The Grain is our own hands-on rating, out of 10. It’s built from Build Quality, Comfort, and either MCM Authenticity or Style Versatility depending on the piece, scored after we’ve seen and tested it ourselves.
The Assembly is the average rating from real owners who’ve submitted a review of a piece themselves. We never fill it in ourselves — it stays empty until real owners weigh in.
It means we evaluated the piece in person — sat in it, tested the build — but haven’t lived with it day to day. We say so upfront on every review like this, and The Assembly stays empty until real owners submit their own scores.
No. We disclose affiliate relationships in our Affiliate Disclosure, but The Grain Score never changes based on whether we earn a commission on a piece.
Yes — every reviewed piece has a review form where real owners can submit their own rating and comments, which feeds directly into that piece’s Assembly score.
